UPDATE 2: Demolition is now complete, leaving yet another empty patch of land in Bridgend town centre.
UPDATE 1: Demolition has now started at Astons!

|
| From the Glamorgan Gazette, 03/06/2004 |
This building in Derwen Road, Bridgend, opposite the Courthouse Cafe Bar was built in the 1960's and is a wonderful example
of 1960's architecture. It started life as a Co-Op foodstore for the Nantymoel Co-operative society. It later became
a nightclub called Astons, with a snooker hall. A fire started just over two years ago which gutted the building, and
damaged the Family Value Store behind it. The building is still standing (although plans are afot to demolish the building,
see article, left) and the fire damaged posters are still hanging. The owners originally planned to reopen
the club, but this looks doubtful now.
